Babar Azam beats Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle to fastest 9,000 T20 runs | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: With a century and five fifties already to his name in 10 innings, Babar Azam has been scoring runs for fun in the ongoing Pakistan Super League.
With 480 runs under his belt, Peshawar Zalmi’s skipper is averaging over 53 and is the second highest run getter of the season behind Multan Sultans’ Mohammad Rizwan (516 runs).
On Tuesday in the Eliminator 1 against Islamabad United, Babar once again was at his sizzling best as he fired a 39-ball 64 in Zalmi’s 12-run win.
In the process, the 28-year old also became the fastest to notch up 9,000 T20 runs surpassing India’s Virat Kohli and former West Indian Chris Gayle.
Babar crossed the landmark in 245 innings while Gayle took 249 innings to rake up 9,000 runs.
Kohli on the other hand achieved the feat in 271 T20 outings.
The fourth and fifth batters on the list are Aussies David Warner and Aaron Finch who got to 9000 runs in 273 and 281 innings.
Babar’s knock on Thursday helped Zalmi progress to Eliminator 2 where they will face Lahore Qalandars. The winner of the Eliminator 2 will take on Multan Sultans in the final on Sunday.
