Taking a cheeky dig at his former Pakistan teammate Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi said the fast bowler should become the finance minister of Pakistan.
Speaking on Shoaib Akhtar’s YouTube channel Afridi said, ” Relieve Ishaq Dar sir (current Finance Minister of Pakistan) and make our Shoaib Akhtar the finance minister as he knows how to make brands. He will make brands.” Afridi’ also told Akhtar not to edit or cut this part.
Afridi’s jibe came at Akthar after his criticism of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam for his poor communication skills in English. He said because of his lack of communication skills Babar cannot be a brand in Pakistan similar to Virat Kohli in India.
Akhtar, who was talking to the host of a show on Pakistan’s ARY News in February had said, “You have to note these things, my intention was not to belittle Babar… he is a brand face…I want him to look that way,”
“Babar is as big a player as Virat Kohli, if you see Virat’s video…he speaks fluently,” the 47-year-old said,” he added.
In addition to Afridi and Akhtar former Pakistan cricketers Misbah-ul-Haq and Sohail Tanvir were also in the conversation.
Afridi later sarcastically said, “Akhtar is very talented he can do anything.”
In response to that, Akthar said, “He will do anything for money but not anything illegal.”
In the video, the trio congratulated Tanvir for his glorious career as he retired from all the formats recently. Afridi acknowledged the injury issues Tanvir had throughout his career however, he praised him for making comebacks despite the surgeries he has to go through.
The four former players are part of the Asian Lions side in the Legends League Cricket and the side is in the second position of the table. World Giants are at the top of the points table and India Maharajas are at third the bottom. The second and third-place teams will play each other in an eliminator to qualify for the final. Whereas a team that ends up at the top of the table qualifies directly for the final. Eliminator is to be held on Saturday and the final of the tournament is on Sunday.
