With first Test ton since 2019, a Kohli message: His story still in the making

The stage was set for the world to see Virat Kohli in a better light. Those in the higher tiers ran down the stairs for a closer view of Kohli reaching a Test hundred, the moment for which India had waited for three-and-a-half years. Close to 45,000 had opted to spend their Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium with the hope that Kohli, unbeaten on 59 at stumps on Saturday, would score...

The batter would have a word with the umpire and the incident would be rechecked leading to Matthews staying at the crease after being given out initially. In the 5th over of the Mumbai innings, it appeared that Matthews had played Sophie Ecclestone’s yorker with the bat. UP appealed but the on-field umpire gave it not out which led to captain Alyssa Healy to review the decision. The replays then showed that Matthews had struck the ball before it hit her boot. The third umpire, however, was shown a different footage, where the ball hit the boot first which led to a reversal of the original decision with UP thinking that they had taken the first MI wicket. ...

Seconds passed; he still lay as if he was cradled in the womb, and even began to shine the ball on his pants from the same position. Eventually, he pulled himself up, and sighed away wearily to chat with the umpire. It was that kind of a day, that kind of a Test on a pitch that mocked its siblings from previous matches in the series.
