Women’s T20 World Cup: The BCCI is giving the women’s cricket team everything they could possibly need… They need to perform now, says Diana Edulji

I was very disappointed with the performance of the Indian women’s team at the T20 World Cup in South Africa. This was an excellent chance to win another world title after the Under-19 team won the junior World Cup recently. Unfortunately, the senior team didn’t look like strong contenders during their matches. We were lucky that the Ireland game (India won by 5 runs; DLS method) got washed out, otherwise, we wouldn’t have reached the semifinals. That said, we did not surrender as we did in the 2020 World Cup. We tried to fight but glaring mistakes throughout the tournament cost us a place in the final. First was the fielding and then the bowling. Spinners ineffective It was surprising that our spinners, who have been our strength, have gone under the radar. The spinners have complet...

ISL 2023: Chennaiyin FC snatch last-minute win against NorthEast United FC

Chennaiyin FC finished their Indian Super League (ISL) season with a thrilling 4-3 win over NorthEast United FC on Friday. Rahim Ali, Kwame Karikari, Anirudh Thapa and Sajal Bag were on the scoresheet as the Marina Machans clinched a third successive win for the first time this season and went level on points with FC Goa. Wilmar Gil bagged a brace and Parthi Gogoi scored another astonishing goal for the Highlanders but it was not enough to take something from the game. Chennaiyin FC got off to a perfect start. Ali’s clever run was spotted by Julius Duker, who lifted the ball over the NorthEast United FC defence before the striker took a touch and slotted it past Arindam Bhattacharja after just three minutes. Six minutes into the second half, NorthEast United FC netted the equaliser. Gog...

Following Renard’s decision on Friday, striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto and forward Kadidiatou Diani also announced they were putting their international careers on hold. Although Renard stopped short of retiring, she said she no longer felt able to play for the national team. “I love France more than anything, I am not perfect, far from it, but I can no longer accept the current system which is far away from the demands required at the highest...

Tough Lucknow pitch escapes ICC sanction | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The tough, viciously turning pitch at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium for the second T20I between India and New Zealand on January 29, which was dubbed as a "shocker" by India's T20I captain Hardik Pandya, has escaped sanctions or any demerit point by the International Cricket Council, with former India fast bowler Javagal Srinath, who was the ICC match referee for that game, rating the pitch as "average."The match saw New Zealand manage to score just 99 for 8 in 20 overs, while India managed to reach the target with just a ball to spare. In a rare occasion in T20 cricket, not a single six was hit during the match, which witnessed 30 out of 40 overs of spin on a track where the ball turned square. "To be honest, this was a shocker of a wicket," Hardik to...

Most will fail yo yo test: Diana Edulji slams India’s poor fielding in Women’s T20 World Cup exit | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Sloppy fielding was one of the reasons for Team India's semi-final loss to Australia in Women's T20 World Cup on Thursday. Along with three dropped catches, there were at least 6 fumbles while fielding -- which cost 10-12 extra runs -- as Harmnpreet Kaur and co. had a poor day out on the field. Former captain Diana Edulji slammed the poor fielding from the women's team, pointing out that the triumphant U-19 team looked fitter and fielded way better in their victorious T20 World Cup campaign. Edulji, who was part of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee which ran the BCCI for 33 months, was critical about the fitness standards of the senior women's team and said that most of the squad members would struggle to pass the yo yo test.
