JAIPUR: In a rare occurrence at the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), all the six posts had a clear winner on the eve of the election itself. But it was on Saturday that the election officer declared Vaibhav Gehlot as the president of the RCA for the second time on the trot for a three-year period (2023-25).
All the executive members won unopposed. The RS Nandu group withdrew all its nominations on Friday citing ‘less numbers on their side’ and that made it a cakewalk for the CP Joshi group.
Chittorgarh District Cricket Association (DCA) secretary Shakti Singh Rathore is the new vice-president, Sikar treasurer Bhawani Shanker Samota is the secretary, Bhilwara secretary Rampal Sharma is the treasurer, Ajmer secretary Rajesh Badhana is the joint-secretary and Jhalawar secretary Farooq Ahmed is the executive member.
Talking about his plans, Vaibhav said, “Like I earlier said, I want to build a new infrastructure in Rajasthan cricket not only in big cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur or Udaipur, but also in other districts which are demanding MoU for stadium construction. So I will look into that also this time. Moreover, we are already in the process of constructing the new Jaipur stadium, so we would like to target it more precisely to ensure we can complete the construction on time.”
He thanked his outgoing team members for their support. “I am thankful to the outgoing RCA office bearers for their constant support and guidance in the last three years. I want to add here that I could not have accomplished so many things without my team which had members who had more experience in cricket than me. I always valued their advice and even in the future, their suggestions would be most welcome,” the president said.
RCA chief patron and former RCA president Joshi was the one who got Vaibhav into the RCA, and the latter acknowledged his role as well. “I am also grateful to the RCA chief patron who selected me from his panel for the second time for the post of president. He has been a guiding force in the last three years. I would like to add that the new stadium construction in Jaipur and renovation of Barkatullah Khan Stadium would not have been possible had state chief minister Ashok Gehlot not allocated a budget for the same. I am thankful to all of them,” he added.
Vaibhav also ‘thanked’ those who withdrew their nominations and sought their ‘support in taking cricket forward’.
