No bilateral cricket series against Pak in 2023-27 FTP

India won’t be playing Pakistan in any bilateral series in the 2023-2027 cycle. In the Future Tours Programme (FTP) sent to all state associations, the board has kept the columns for games against Pakistan ‘blank’. Besides, multi-nation tournaments, the Indian men’s team will play 38 Tests (20 home and 18 away), 42 ODIs (21 each home and away) and 61 T20Is (31 home and 30 away) in the 2023-2027 cycle. The BCCI can’t take any decision on a bilateral series with Pakistan until it gets a nod from the Government of India. The number of bilateral matches India will play across formats has been reduced from the previous cycle (163 to 141) due to an ICC event every year and a bigger dedicated window for the Indian Premier League (75-80 days every season), but BCCI secretary Jay Shah, in a circ...

We are very clear about team we want to play: Sridharan Sriram | Cricket News – Times of India

CHRISTCHURCH: Bangladesh's technical consultant Sridharan Sriram is not fazed by the team's poor run in the recently concluded Tri-Series and mentioned the team had lots of positives to take away from the series. Bangladesh flew to New Zealand to play a Tri-Series against New Zealand and Pakistan. The Bangladeshi team could not secure a win on the New Zealand tour. Bangladesh's batting was at its best of the tri-series, but the bowlers were unable to hold on when the game was on the line in the seven-wicket loss to Pakistan on Thursday. "Everything has to come together for Bangladesh to win," Sriram said. "We had two opportunities against Pakistan. We had to score 100 in the last ten overs in the first game, and defend 100 runs in the last ten overs in this game. We came up short by a s...

World Cup has helped Qatar strengthen worker rights, says organiser

Qatar acknowledges there are gaps in its labor system but the World Cup has allowed the country to make progress on issues related to worker rights, Mahmoud Qutub, a member of the tournament’s organizing committee, said on Thursday. Qatar, the first Middle Eastern country to stage soccer’s showpiece event, has come under severe scrutiny from human rights groups over its treatment of migrant workers in the run-up to the tournament, which kicks off on Nov 20. Despite Qatar’s efforts, the Council of Europe said more results need to be seen. “The number of tragic accidents continues to run into the hundreds. And enforcement of new rules isn’t sufficiently effective. Workers don’t have the right of assembly,” said Lord George Foulkes, who chaired the hearing. Qutub, the Supreme Committee’s e...

Don’t just look to survive against Shaheen Afridi, look to score runs: Gambhir to India

India must counter Pakistan left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi in an aggressive manner and not just look to see him off in their T20 World Cup opener, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir said on Wednesday. India will take on the arch-rivals on October 23 in Melbourne. Afridi, who is returning from a knee injury that ruled him out of the Asia Cup, is expected to pose a serious threat to the Indian batters at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the upcoming T20 showpiece. “When it comes to Shaheen Afridi, don’t look to survive. Look to score runs from him. Because the moment you look to survive, everything becomes really small. Whether it’s your backlift, whether it’s your footwork, and obviously, in T20 cricket you can’t look to survive,” Gambhir said while speaking on Star Sports show ‘Game Pla...

Along with Neymar, the defendants in the trial being brought by Spanish prosecutors, which begins in Barcelona on Monday, are his parents, the two clubs, former Barca presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, and former Santos president Odilio Rodrigues. NEW DELHI: Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal on Thursday resigned as the president of the Punjab Cricket Association, days after former India spinner Harbhajan Singh claimed "illegal activities" were being carried out under the current dispensation. Chahal, who had taken charge in May, confirmed to PTI that he has quit his post. Earlier this month, Harbhajan, who is also PCA's chief advisor, had alleged wrongdoing in the association. Harbhajan, though, didn't mention the name of the office-bearers in his letter, which was sent to PCA members and district units of the body. T20 World Cup 2022: Are Sri Lanka over-relying on spinners?

Sri Lanka have two of the finest T20 tweakers around. The guileful leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and the cunning mystery-spinner Maheesh Theekshana. Together, they could unleash most tricks in the spin diction, from standard leg-breaks to reverse carrom-balls, and do not necessarily require assistance from the pitch. There is the under-rated part-time off-spin of Dhananjaya de Silva as well. But as sorted as Sri Lanka’s spin department is, there is uncertainty around their pace bowling firm. The Asia Cup saw a couple of youngsters emerging from obscurity, like left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka and Pramod Madushan. But they have a collective experience of eight T20Is. Their two most experienced bowlers, Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, though included in the squad, are battling in...

Arun believes that young pace sensation Umran Malik should have been in the squad in place of one of the three spinners. “Umran Malik is exciting, he’s got the pace. And given the right kind of fields he’s done pretty well in the IPL,” the 59-year-old said on Wednesdays with WV (Raman). India has picked leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and left-arm spinner Axar Patel in their squad for the T20 World Cup.
