South Korea on the verge of FIFA World Cup qualification after Cho downs Lebanon | Football News – Times of India

HONG KONG: South Korea moved to the verge of qualification for November's World Cup finals in Qatar on Thursday as Cho Gue-sung's goal earned Paulo Bento's side a 1-0 win over Lebanon in Sidon. The Koreans, missing injured duo Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan, were made to work for a win that moves them on to 17 points from seven games in Group A of Asia's preliminaries. That points tally means the Koreans will be confirmed as World Cup qualifiers if the United Arab Emirates do not defeat Syria in their meeting in Dubai later on Thursday and are at least certain of a place in the playoffs. Cho scored the game's only goal when he latched onto Hwang Ui-jo's low curling cross from the left, the forward steering the ball home from close range. Lebanon were far from outplayed, however, with ...

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal extends T20I break | Cricket News – Times of India

DHAKA: Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal said Thursday he would prolong his break from Twenty20 internationals for at least another six months, adding to speculation over his future in the short format. Tamim is one of Bangladesh's greatest batting assets and has captained the one-day international side for the past two years. But he has not played a 20-over international since March 2020 and withdrew his name from last year's World Cup to give younger players an opportunity. Bangladesh failed to win at the tournament and also suffered a clean-sweep series loss against Pakistan at home in November. The team's top-order struggles have sparked calls for Tamim's return, but he made clear on Thursday that his priorities were elsewhere. "There were a few discussions over my T20 career in the las...

He didn’t want the money, he just wanted to play: Looking back at Deepak Hooda’s roller-coaster ride | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Irfan Pathan compares Deepak Hooda's passion for cricket to a kid in a candy store. He simply loves the "taste" of a cricket field. "He loves the taste of playing cricket, pretty much like chocolate," says the former India all-rounder. Following a rather eventful 2021 when he quit his home team Baroda after a well documented spat with skipper Krunal Pandya, Hooda has earned his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI team for the home series against the West Indies. The batting all-rounder had also been picked in India's T20 squad back in 2017 but did not get to play. With India looking to find long-term solutions for their shaky middle-order, the 26-year-old has a good chance of making a long awaited debut next month. The selection marks the high point of a roller-coaster last 12 m...

Tough road awaits Kuldeep, Harbhajan wants Team India to ‘stick by’ him | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: When Kuldeep Yadav had gone for a skier during a Kolkata Knight Riders practice session in the UAE last September, little did he know that within seconds his world would come crashing down with a twisted knee. Those present at the Dubai training facility were horrified seeing his condition as he lay there writhing in pain, waiting to be stretchered out. In a week's time, he underwent a major knee surgery in Mumbai, which cast doubts on how long it would take for him to get fit for competitive cricket. He visited Mathura with his family on Thursday to offer prayers on his comeback, for Kuldeep really needed some divine intervention to make his way back into the Indian team. Otherwise, all that he could have done was to wait at home to hear from the BCCI if it would hold the no...

The hacker reportedly wrote some nasty comments for a few users on the social media platform and sent out around 10 tweets from his account. Later on, all the tweets were deleted. Earlier in 2019, former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson's Twitter and Instagram accounts got hacked. In October 2021, former India wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel had urged his followers to ignore activities from his Instagram account after it got hacked.
