IPL 2021, Qualifier 2: KKR set up title clash against CSK with 3-wicket win over DC | Cricket News – Times of India

Kolkata Knight Riders went into the second qualifier against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday claiming they have a better understanding of the sluggish pitch in Sharjah. KKR captain Eoin Morgan had no hesitation to bowl first the moment he won the toss. Not surprisingly, their pacers and spinners found the absolute length straightaway to stifle the Capitals batting and restrict them to a modest total of 135/5. Just when their fairytale run seemed to have been coming to a heart-breaking end in the back end of the chase, Rahul Tripathi smacked R Ashwin's long hop over the long off boundary to seal a three-wicket win with a ball to spare. Scorecard | As it happenedThe match should have never gone that far with 11 needed to win off 20 balls and seven wickets in hand. When dew took over, the KKR ...

Thomas Dennerby's team had entered the match after a 5-0 win over Bahrain in their previous outing here on Sunday. Kolkata Knight Riders almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and losing this game from 125/2 after 16.3 overs would have been unpardonable. They were chasing 136 for victory, but as Shubman Gill departed, wickets tumbled and dot balls piled up. Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, Shakib Al Hasan and SunilNarine returned to the dug-out without opening their account. WHAT. A. Joe Root eyes maiden IPL stint next year: Report | Cricket News – Times of India

LONDON: England Test captain Joe Root is hoping to make his debut in the Indian Premier League next year and will enter his name in the 2022 mega auction, a report said on Wednesday. Considered one of the modern greats of the game, Root is yet to play in the IPL after going unsold in the 2018 auction but all that can change in next year's tournament, which is set to be expanded with the inclusion of two new teams. According to a report in 'Daily telegraph', Root is looking to "enter the auction next year in an attempt to play in the competition for the first time and also boost his T20 World Cup hopes." Dramatic ups and downs in the space of an over for Rahul Tripathi to take KKR home

KKR wanted 7 runs in 6 balls for a place in the final. Rahul Tripathi could have easily made it “1 run in 5 balls” had he shown the deserving disrespect to Ashwin’s rank long-hop. He did swing the bat but the ball rolled to long-on, and equally slowly Tripathi would drag his feet to the non-striker’s end. Had he missed the chance to be the hero? The next 4 balls had every possible emotion packed into them. Players on field, those in the dugouts, WAGs in the guest boxes, owners in the VVIP suits were all on one crazy stadium-sized rollercoaster – feeling a heady rush one moment and nauseating the next. Those manic final moments had a couple of embarrassing ducks, one almost-six. Ashwin looked like he was finally having his big IPL moment and Pant was on the threshold of being called the...

Shardul Thakur replaced Axar Patel in India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup on Wednesday. The decision — which comes a month after the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) original squad announcement — now sees Patel replace Thakur on the standby list, joining Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar. The BCCI All-India Senior Selection Committee has also added Kolkata Knight Riders breakout star Venkatesh Iyer and seven others to the list of players who will assist the team in their preparations. ”After a discussion with the team management has added Shardul Thakur to the main squad. All-rounder Axar Patel, who was part of the 15-member squad will now be on the list of standby players,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement. In contrast, Diksha Dagar was part of the winning team in London and in the individual standings she was T-12. Aditi, a three-time winner on LET including her home Open, t...

IPL 2021: Rishabh Pant is a match-winner, says Shane Watson | Cricket News – Times of India

DUBAI: Former Australian batter Shane Watson has lavished praise on the Delhi Capitals' (DC) skipper and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and has given him advice before IPL 2021's second Qualifier on Wednesday. "My advice to Rishabh Pant is to play with freedom, have that air of arrogance and confidence - that he does when he's at his best, like he did in that last game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), those one-handed sixes," said Watson. "He's absolutely crazy, the skills that he's got, and for me, the advice would be to go out and have that confidence. Don't allow the situations, the leaderships to dictate how you play. You go out and play with freedom - take the game on," he added. Watson called Pant a 'match winner' and said that he can take away any match from the opposition. ...

Danish sports minister says team to go to World Cup in Qatar

Despite calling it “a wrong decision” to stage next year’s World Cup in Qatar, the Danish sports minister said Wednesday that a boycott of the tournament is not the answer. Speaking a day after Denmark qualified for the tournament, Ane Halsboe-Joergensen told broadcaster TV2 that the team will go to World Cup. Qatar has faced criticism amid reports of discriminatory laws and conditions for the migrant workers preparing the Gulf nation for next year’s tournament. No country has announced plans to boycott the World Cup, although Norway is facing calls to do so from some clubs, including Rosenborg and Tromso. Any country that qualified for the World Cup and refused to play would face punishment from FIFA, including a fine and ban from trying to qualify for the next tournament. Giving up a ...

T20 World Cup: Former fast-bowling star Shane Bond working specifically with New Zealand spinners | Cricket News – Times of India

DUBAI: It may sound a bit unusual but former New Zealand fast-bowling star Shane Bond has been hired by his country's cricket board to "work specifically" with the national team's spinners ahead of the T20 World Cup. Bond, with the squad as the 'fourth coach', is assisting bowling coach Shane Jurgensen while also working with the team's spinners. "He's working specifically with the spin bowlers in the tournament for us as well. So, he's been great and it provides another set of hands for Shane (Jurgensen) when you look at a large number in squad are bowlers," the team's head coach Gary Stead told New Zealand Cricket. Hockey India chief terms Belgium’s comments on Indians sweeping FIH awards as racial discrimination

Hockey India (HI) has asserted that Belgium’s public expression of displeasure on Indians sweeping the FIH annual awards is nothing short of “racial discrimination” and the world body should initiate a thorough investigation into the matter. In a strongly-worded letter to International Hockey Federation (FIH) CEO Thierry Weil, HI President Gyanendro Ningombam said that Belgium and its players questioning the voting system was disrespectful towards the Indian winners and demeaning their achievements. “The public statements of displeasure at the announcement of the Indian winners is highly disrespectful and not in the spirit of sportsmanship and the sport of hockey,” Ningombam wrote in the letter. “The objections on behalf of Belgium Federation for 2021 winners needs to be carefully exami...
