Stock limit on pulses is regressive, withdraw order: Industry body | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Barely hours after the Centre notified stock limits on pulses which the wholesalers, retailers, millers and importers can keep with them, the India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA) termed it as a “regressive” step. It urged the government to immediately withdraw the order. On Friday evening, the consumer affairs said the need for the urgent policy decision was felt to “send the right signal” to the market. The order issued by the ministry said wholesalers can stock a maximum of 200 tonnes of pulses (except moong) and they can’t keep more than 100 tonnes of one variety of pulses at any given time till October 31. The retailers can stock a maximum of 5 tonnes. In case of millers, the stock limit will be the last three months of production or 25% of annual installed capacity...

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Biden emphasized that for most Americans who are vaccinated, the holiday weekend will be worth celebrating. Says Biden: “This year is different than the Fourth of July of last year and it's going to be better next year.” But the president says he's worried about those who haven't yet gotten a shot. “I am concerned that people who have not gotten vaccinated have the capacity to catch the variant and spread the variant to other people who have not been vaccinated. But I am concerned. Lives will be lost.” Source link

Bitter turf war over theatre commands erupts publicly, CDS rejects IAF’s concerns | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The bitter festering turf war within the armed forces over the creation of four new integrated theatre commands erupted in public on Friday, with chief of defence staff General Bipin Rawat firmly rejecting the concerns of Indian Air Force and even dubbing it “a supporting arm” in war-fighting akin to artillery or engineers in the Army. The country’s senior-most military officer said the maritime theatre command (MTC), air defence command (ADC) and two land-based theatre commands for Pakistan and China already have government sanction and would be created in a time-bound manner whether the IAF likes it or not. Air Chief Marshal R K S Bhadauria, speaking at the same webinar later in the day, in turn, stressed the air force’s primacy in shaping the battlefield. The IAF is not ag...

Vaccine allowed during pregnancy: women may make ‘informed choice’

Five-and-a-half months into the immunisation programme against Covid-19, India on Friday allowed vaccination for pregnant women, paving the way for the entire adult population of the country to be vaccinated. The Union Health Ministry accepted the recommendation of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) to allow pregnant women to make an “informed choice” on taking the vaccine. The decision followed national-level consultations “to build consensus on Covid vaccination of pregnant women”, the Ministry said. The Ministry had said on May 19 that vaccination was recommended for lactating women. Whether pregnant women could be vaccinated was under deliberation by NTAGI, it had said at the time. On Friday, the Ministry said: “The consultation unanimously we...

CDS calls Air Force a support arm; IAF chief disagrees, says huge role

Rekindling the debate on the roles within the proposed integrated theatre commands, General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff, Friday described the Air Force as a “support arm” but IAF chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria disagreed, saying “airpower has a huge role”. Speaking at an event organised by the Global Counter Terrorism Council, General Rawat said the “Air Force is required to provide support to the ground forces” and “do not forget that Air Force continues to remain a supporting arm to the armed forces, just as artillery support or the engineer support the combatant arms in the Army”. “They will be a supporting arm. But they have a charter, they have an air defence charter and supporting the ground forces in times of operations. This is the basic charter which ...

Suspect LeT, but can’t rule out Pak hand in IAF base terror: J&K DGP

There is a “strong” suspicion that the Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind Sunday morning’s drone terror attack on the Indian Air Force Station in Jammu, but the “involvement” of Pakistani agencies cannot be ruled out, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbagh Singh said on Friday. This is because another IED attack had been planned by the Lashkar at a crowded place in Jammu that same evening, the police chief told reporters. “We have a strong suspicion that the LeT is involved in this case,” Singh said. “Since the LeT outfit is run from Pakistan, in a way Pakistan’s involvement cannot be ruled out,” he said. However, “to what extent Pakistani agencies were involved, is a question that would be answered only when the investigations proceed further,’’ he added. The DGP sa...
