Every NDA ally deserves power share, says JD(U)

The JD (U), which heads the government in Bihar with the BJP, sought to assert its position Saturday when it said every NDA ally deserves “a respectable share” in power at the Centre. The JD (U), which has 16 Lok Sabha MPs, has not been part of the NDA government at the Centre. Responding to questions from reporters, JD (U) national president and Rajya Sabha MP RCP Singh said: “We are a part of NDA. Every alliance partner should get a respectable share (in the government).” Asked if the JD (U) has been seeking a berth in the Union government, Singh said: “Where is the question of asking for it? It is about understanding (between alliance partners). It has to be natural.” His remarks come amid a series of meetings in New Delhi where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is learnt to...

2nd Test: Henry strikes as New Zealand eye England series win | Cricket News – Times of India

BIRMINGHAM: Matt Henry took three top-order wickets to leave New Zealand on the brink of a series-clinching win as England's batsmen failed miserably in the second and final Test at Edgbaston on Saturday. England, on a good batting pitch, were 122-9 in their second innings at stumps on the third day -- just 37 runs ahead of New Zealand with one wicket standing and two days left to play. Even so, that still represented a recovery from an even more embarrassing 76-7. Henry, one of an exceptional six changes to the New Zealand side that drew the first Test at Lord's, took the first three wickets to fall en route to fine figures of 3-36 in 12 overs. New Zealand are eyeing only a third series win in England after their 1986 and 1999 triumphs -- an ideal way to prepare for their appearance in...

The 44th GST Council meeting, chaired by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and comprising state ministers, on Saturday slashed tax rate on Covid drugs such as Remdesivir and Tocilizumab as well as on medical oxygen, and oxygen concentrators but ignored demands for a reduction in taxes on vaccines. BJP workers take to streets with public apology; Rajib meets Trinamool leader

Like many TMC rebels’ feelers to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to facilitate their return, the BJP’s grassroots workers have now taken to the street to express their remorse for backing the saffron party in the Assembly polls. With public announcement systems atop e-rickshaws, they are declaring that they “misunderstood” the BJP — from Labhpur, Bolpur and Sainthia in Birbhum district to Dhaniakhali in Hooghly district. The BJP, however, alleged that the TMC “intimidation” tactics were behind its workers’ public apologies. Meanwhile, a day after BJP’s former national vice-president Mukul Roy returned to TMC, former state minister Rajib Banerjee’s meeting with a Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh on Saturday fuelled speculation of his re-entry to the party. But the former mi...

Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic kept Benfica's Haris Seferovic and Borussia Moenchengladbach's Breel Embolo up front despite Mario Gavranovic scoring four times in two pre-tournament friendlies.
