The CCTV at Bangarmau Police Station in Unnao shows Faisal Hussain, 18, being dragged by some unidentified people as he struggles to walk or stand. As two persons try to lift him, he repeatedly collapses. It is not clear whether Hussain is being taken from the police station or being brought there. Jharkhand CM: Covid-19 a national problem, but states left to themselves

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday said the Centre is neither treating Covid-19 as a “nationwide problem” nor listening to states’ demands or giving them the flexibility to tackle the situation as per their wisdom. In an interview to The Sunday Express from his residence in Ranchi, Soren said, “Is this a national pandemic or a state-centric problem? The Centre has neither left it to us to handle the situation, nor is it handling it properly… We don’t get to import medicines because the Centre does not give permission, but somehow it manages to import whenever it likes.” The Central government has taken control of almost all critical issues related to management of the Covid-19 pandemic: allocation of oxygen, medical equipment, and vaccines, Soren claimed. “Bu...

Atletico Madrid clinch La Liga title thanks to Suarez winner | Football News – Times of India

VALLADOLID (Spain): Atletico Madrid pipped city rivals Real Madrid to the La Liga title on Saturday after Luis Suarez fired them to a 2-1 comeback win at Real Valladolid. Valladolid took a shock lead in the 18th minute when Oscar Plano slotted past Jan Oblak to complete a sweeping counterattack after Yannick Carrasco had lost control of the ball following an Atletico corner. Just as they had done in last week's comeback win over Osasuna, Atletico missed a series of clear opportunities but they drew level after a moment of magic from Angel Correa, who danced his way through the defence before arrowing into the bottom corner in the 57th minute. ❤️ 🏆 𝐂 𝐇 𝐀 𝐌 𝐏 𝐈 𝐎 𝐍 𝐒 🏆 🤍Atletico Madrid win #LaLigaSantander for an 11th time!👏 Congrats, @atletienglish! 👏 https://t.co/Gn9MmEHnhr— LaLiga Engl...

Variant in India needs two vaccine doses for better safety: UK government

Two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine are needed to provide “strong protection” against symptomatic infection from B.1.617.2, the coronavirus variant first identified in India, suggests preliminary data from the UK Department of Health and Social Care’s executive agency, Public Health England (PHE), Financial Times reported on Saturday. This sharply highlights the public health challenge in India as the B.1.617.2 begins to take over as the “dominant variant of concern” here and the country grapples with a severe shortage of vaccines. Only around 43.05 million people — around 3 per cent of India’s total population — have received two doses of any Covid-19 vaccine since India started its immunisation programme on January 16 this year. Another 151.90 million people had received at...

In Delhi’s urban village with a lakh people, a ‘Chaupal OPD’ helps fight off Covid, fears

EVERY evening, under a banyan tree in Delhi’s urban village of Ghitorni, a steady crowd builds up. One by one, they go in for consultation to a nearby ‘baraat ghar’ room, where a group of volunteers has come together to help this village of around one lakh — more known for the jazzy furniture stores that line the highway connecting it to Gurgaon — fight Covid. The idea is the brainchild of Narender Kumar, a retired Navy officer. When three deaths were recorded in Ghitorni on a single day in mid-April, at the height of the second wave in Delhi that had patients scrambling for help, Kumar thought of turning to the three doctors in his family for a solution. The result was the ‘Chaupal OPD’, now functional for 10 days, with 13 volunteers, including the doctors from Kumar’s fam...

LAS VEGAS: Wearing a French maid-inspired lingerie costume and high heels, dancer JoJo Hamner waited patiently to get her Covid-19 vaccine in a line that snaked past a glittery hostess stand under a red-light chandelier. When it was her turn, Hamner sat in a chair and held onto a small feather duster that completed her costume while a nurse administered the shot into her already-exposed arm. Hamner then waited nearby for the required 15 minutes of observation, sitting with other vaccine recipients in leather chairs between plush purple booths, vacant stages and empty poles at this strip club in Las Vegas. "This is just the most Vegas thing I've ever seen," she said of the experience. Larry Flynt's Hustler Club, with a spinning disco ball casting rainbow colors on the walls but more ...

Both were told to appear before the investigating team on Sunday. Demand still high but first signs O2 crisis is waning

Early signs of the waning of the oxygen crisis are visible in the country with liquid medical oxygen supplied to hospitals over the last 72 hours showing a decline for the first time in almost a month. “Actual consumption has dropped to 8,000 MT a day from around 8,900 MT a day,” an official said. While the quantity supplied has dropped, it is still much higher than the demand recorded during the first wave of Covid-19 last year. The data maintained by an empowered group of officers tasked with oxygen supply shows total oxygen supplied to hospitals hit a peak of 8,944 metric tonnes (MT) per day on May 9 dropped to about 8,100 MT a day on May 18-19. However, it has again risen marginally to 8,334 MT a day on May 20. Total oxygen includes liquid oxygen supplied in bulk by man...

Congress tries generational change in Kerala with Satheesan’s appointment as opposition leader

The Congress’s humiliating defeat in the Kerala Assembly polls in 1967 and its split at the national level two years later in 1969 led to the emergence of a crop of young party leaders in the state — among them were A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi, Oommen Chandy, P C Chacko, Kadannappalli Ramachandran and V M Sudheeran. And barring Kadannappalli, who is now part of the LDF, the others hold sway in the party even to this day, considering that the Congress in Kerala has seen new generations of leaders emerge in the last five decades but barely any of them occupy top posts. Considering this, the appointment of V D Satheesan (56) as Leader of the Opposition is a generational change – not in terms of age as he is only eight years younger to his predecessor Ramesh Chennithala – but in...
