Audio-only Live feature is Instagram’s answer to Clubhouse – Times of India

It has been known for a while that Instagram is working on its own tool to take on Clubhouse, an app that recently became popular for its audio-only chat rooms.
Now, it may be a while before we see a full-on dedicated Clubhouse-like service from the photo sharing app. However, the company has added a new function to its Live support that makes it work like Clubhouse.
Through its official Twitter account, the company announced that it is adding the support to allow users to mute their audio or video when they are hosting a Live.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Instagram spokesperson said that this support will provide the “hosts more flexibility during their livestream experiences, as they can decrease the pressure to look or sound a certain way while broadcasting live,” which is similar to the functionality Clubhouse offers.
The report also adds that the Facebook-owned company is also working on adding the support for hosts to be able to turn on or off the video or mute others that are part of their Live feed, but it is working on it and more such features as well.
Earlier this month, Facebook also made its first attack on Clubhouse with the launch of the Hotline app. The app has been developed by NPE Team (new product experimentation) from the social networking tech giant and is currently in the public beta testing stage.
