Amid Covid 2nd wave, govt rethink on offline CBSE Board exam

A spike in coronavirus cases across the country seems to have forced a rethink within the government on the CBSE’s offline Board examinations, scheduled to begin on May 4. Sources in the Education Ministry told The Indian Express that holding the examinations on time seems “difficult”, given the increase in fresh infections. While the government now seems open to reconsidering the examination dates, officers said it was too early to indicate the exact changes to the schedule. India’s active Covid-19 caseload reached 11,08,087 on Sunday, the highest ever. Daily deaths continue to show an upward trend: 839 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The demand has also received the Opposition’s support. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have urged Educati...

Nepal PM hints at dissolving House again

Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli on Monday hinted that the House of Representatives — which the country’s Supreme Court had reinstated two months after he dissolved it — may be dissolved again. “We honoured the Supreme Court judgment, but it has not solved the problem. It has only invited more political instability and the presence of the House is not going to help the situation,” he said while addressing the meeting of a front organisation of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist. Oli also hit out at his political rivals, mainly those from the Nepal Communist Party-Maoist Centre and dissident groups in his own party, daring them to bring down the government instead of simply demanding his resignation. “If you have the guts, withdraw the support in...

Watch: Tewatia’s sensational catch denies KL Rahul a century | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul was close to scoring the first century of this Indian Premier League season. His hopes, however, were dashed as Rajasthan Royals spinner Rahul Tewatia pulled off a stunning catch at deep mid-wicket boundary. The Punjab franchise skipper, who got the Orange cap last season for most runs in IPL 2020, fell nine short of a century, getting dismissed for 91 off 50 deliveries. #RRvPBKS What a Catch Rahul Tewatia #Rahulttewatia https://t.co/WLp6pwuB2c— Yash Manglani (@YashManglani17) 1618243028000At the start of the last over of Punjab Kings' innings, Rahul was batting on 87. Police: Minnesota officer meant to draw taser, not handgun – Times of India

BROOKLYN CENTER: The police chief in a Minneapolis suburb where a Black man was fatally shot during a traffic stop said Monday that he believes the officer who fired intended to use a Taser, not a handgun. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon described the shooting as "an accidental discharge." The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was investigating. Daunte Wright, 20, died Sunday in a metropolitan area that was already on edge because of the trial of the first of four police officers charged in George Floyd's death. Gannon said at a news conference that the officer made a mistake, and he released body camera footage from the officer who fired. The footage showed three officers around a stopped car. When another officer attempts to handcuff Wright, a struggle ensues. The officer ...

Sonia: Expand categories eligible for vaccination

Congress president Sonia Gandhi wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, asking the government to expand the categories eligible for vaccination on the basis of need and exposure, rather than age. She also called for equipment, instruments, medicines and support infrastructure required to deal with the crisis to be exempted from GST. Sonia in her letter said that “vaccines are our foremost hope” but “sadly, most of the states, including those ruled by the BJP and its allies, are left with a stock of just 3 to 5 days”. “While it will be necessary on one hand to substantially ramp up our domestic production capacity, it will also be prudent to allow emergency use authorization of all the vaccine candidates that have the required clearances, without any further delay. ...

Don’t see anything wrong with Kuldeep’s bowling: Harbhajan | Cricket News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav may have struggled to keep a place in the playing eleven of the national team as well as in the Kolkata Knight Riders side but veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh does not see anything wrong with his bowling and said he would come back stronger. Once a vital cog in India and KKR's attack, the chinaman bowler has struggled recently and he is not a regular in the playing XI. "I don't see anything with Kuldeep's bowling. He's been a match-winner for Team India and for KKR. I'm sure he will come good for KKR and also later on for Team India as well," Harbhajan said, strongly backing the fellow KKR spinner. Last season, Kuldeep returned with just one wicket in five matches, of which he was not given the ball in one. Kuldeep was also a member of t...

Bengal polls: Not four, (Central forces) should have killed 8, says BJP leader

A DAY after West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh described as “bad boys” the four men killed in CISF firing outside a polling booth in Cooch Behar, prompting a furious backlash from the ruling TMC, another senior state leader of the party, Rahul Sinha, went a step further and said the security forces should have killed eight people instead. “Not four, eight people should have been shot dead in Sitalkuchi. The Central forces should be issued a showcause notice asking why they killed only four and not eight…Goons are trying to deprive people of their democratic rights. Central forces responded appropriately. If it happens again, they will answer again,” Sinha said. Blaming the TMC for a fifth death that occurred that day in a separate incident of poll violence, he said: “An ...

Sanjay Raut says Centre discrediting Maharashtra and other non-BJP states ‘for not controlling pandemic’ | India News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday slammed the Centre saying that it is discrediting the Maharashtra government in controlling the pandemic because it is not a BJP-ruled state. Speaking to ANI here today, Raut said, "I see a big reason to discredit Maharashtra. Where there is no BJP Government, the state government is said to have failed in controlling coronavirus. Where there is a BJP chief minister, there is no coronavirus." His remarks came days after Union health minister Harsh Vardhan accused the Maharashtra government of "misgovernance" in tackling Covid-19, saying that it has followed "utterly casual approach" and is putting the residents in danger "by letting people escape institutional quarantine mandate for the sake of their personal vasuli". Another went home shaken after he tugged on her ear and kissed her cheek during a closed-door meeting. And when Hendricks went on to lead the FBI's field office in Albany, New York, in 2018, colleagues described him as a "skilled predator" who leered at women in the workplace, touched them inappropriately and asked one to have sex in a conference room, according to a newly released federal report obtained by The Associated Press. Hendricks quietly retired last year as a special agent in charge after the Office of Inspector General - the Justice Department's internal watchdog - concluded he sexually harassed eight female subordinates in one of the FB...

2nd T20I: Markram leads South Africa to easy win over Pakistan | Cricket News – Times of India

JOHANNESBURG: South Africa opener Aiden Markram struck a brisk half-century as the hosts levelled the four-game Twenty20 International series against Pakistan with a six wicket win in the second match at The Wanderers on Monday. Pakistan elected to bat, but some poor stroke-play saw them restricted to 140 for nine in their 20 overs, well below par on one of the best batting wickets in world cricket. South Africa never looked troubled in their reply as they reached their target with 36 balls left in a comprehensive win for a side missing seven leading players who are either injured or have been released to play in the Indian Premier League. Pakistan’s innings got off to a somewhat bizarre start when in-form opener Mohammad Rizwan danced down the wicket to left-arm spinner George Linde (3...
