Chidambaram targets govt over vaccination plan

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday hit out at the BJP government over its Covid-19 vaccination strategy, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to chief ministers to organise a “tika utsav” is nothing but “rhetoric and hyperbole” to cover up the way the Centre has “messed up” management of the production and supply sides of the vaccines. With several states reporting vaccine shortages, the Congress has been aggressively questioning the Central government’s inoculation strategy. Congress president Sonia Gandhi had Saturday argued that the government has mismanaged the situation, exported vaccines and allowed a shortage to be created in India. “What does one say when the government wants to call the vaccination drive an ‘utsav’? By no stretch of imaginati...

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too asked the government to consult all stakeholders before making “sweeping decisions”. He tweeted: “In the light of the devastating Corona second wave, conducting CBSE exams must be reconsidered.” Source link

EPL: Cavani and Greenwood seal Man United comeback win at Tottenham | Football News – Times of India

LONDON: Late goals by Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood sealed Manchester United a 3-1 comeback win against Tottenham Hotspur, cementing their place in the Premier League top-four while the London club's hopes of joining them looked slim on Sunday. Cavani had a goal controversially ruled out in an otherwise dull first half shortly before Son Heung-min gave Tottenham a 40th-minute lead with their first shot on target. The second half was far more lively with United dominant. Fred equalised from close range just before the hour-mark and Cavani then made up for his first-half frustration by diving to head home in the 79th minute. The closest Tottenham came to an equaliser was when Cavani headed an attempted clearance against his own crossbar. But substitute Greenwood made sure of the win ...

The incident on Saturday was captured on video by a doctor on duty at J P Hospital, who shared the clip online, prompting a backlash on social media and a tweet from Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan appealing for people to respect those at the forefront of the fight against Covid. In Gujarat, patients line up, BJP’s remdesevir stocks get a political twist

The BJP on Sunday defended its Gujarat unit chief C R Paatil following opposition criticism over the free distribution of remdesivir, an antiviral drug used in the treatment of Covid, which is sold on prescription and is currently in short supply. Queues for the drug were seen outside both Zydus hospitals — which renewed its sale with stricter conditions — and the BJP office in Navsari, where the party distributed it for free for the second day. In a video statement issued on Sunday, the Gujarat BJP media convener Yagnesh Dave said: “BJP started providing remdesivir injections in Surat free of cost…with cooperation of local traders. As per the instructions of our president C R Paatil, local traders bought (the drug) in whichever available quantity on their own, from Gujara...

Record 10,000-plus cases in Delhi, Kejriwal warns of possible lockdown

As more than 10,000 new infections were detected in Delhi for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal warned on Sunday that the capital may have to be put under lockdown if hospitals start running out of Covid beds. “I am not in favour of lockdown. I feel that lockdown is not the solution to Corona. [But] It should be imposed by any government when its hospital structure collapses. Through lockdown, the pace of the spread of disease reduces… If you (citizens) cooperate and the hospital facilities stay under control, we won’t have to impose a lockdown in Delhi,” the Chief Minister said. “However”, he added, “in case the number of beds in hospitals starts falling short, we might have to impose a lockdown. I am not in favour of lockd...
