Chennai: The Election Commission of Tuesday issued notice to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Udhayanidhi Stalin seeking explanation to over his statement on former Union Ministers late Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley during an election rally by April 7.
Udhayanidhi, who is the son of DMK chief MK Stalin, has recently grabbed eyeballs after his reported derogatory statement against late BJP leaders. Udhayanidhi Stalin had, in a public programme, said that both Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley died owing to the mental torture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The EC notice to Udhayanidhi comes days after Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP has lodged a formal complaint with poll body seeking disqualification of candidature of DMK youth wing secretary and candidate from Chepauk constituency.
Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of Sushama Swaraj, has disapproved of the statement of Udhayanidhi and in a tweet said the ‘statement of Udhayanidhi Stalin was totally false and that the Prime minister had bestowed upon the family utmost care and respect at a time when it was needed most’.
Even the daughter of Arun Jaitley, Sonali Jaitley Bakshi also came out against the DMK scion and in a tweet said ‘her late dad and Prime minister Narendra Modi shared a personal bond beyond politics and that to make false allegations under election pressure was not right’.
The DMK scion had also alleged that Narendra Modi had become Prime minister sidelining senior leader and BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani. He then went ahead to mentioned that both Sushama Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, who were part of Prime Minister’s cabinet, died owing to mental “pressure and torture” by him
