SRINAGAR: Ten months after the nullification of Article 370, the Army, in a letter to the J&K government, has sought permission to acquire 129 kanals or 16.12 acre of land at Tapperwari village in the Pattan area of Baramulla district. This, significantly, is the Army’s first ‘letter of interest’ to buy land after the central government’s move on the Article. The Army’s 19 infantry division ordinance unit sent the letter to the government on May 26. “Some troops of this unit are temporarily stationed on your land at Kareri High ground near Tapperwari village. It is requested to inform your wish to sell the land to the Indian Army,” the letter reads. The Army has requested the government to reply by May 30.
