A 19-year-old youth was stabbed to death, allegedly by two brothers, in Northeast Delhi’s Gokalpuri on Monday. With the incident sparking tension in the area, police said 100 Rapid Police Force personnel were deployed to maintain peace.
Police arrested Shahrukh (19) and Sahil Khan (22) on Tuesday evening and lodged a case under BNS sections 103(1) and 3(5), pertaining to murder and common intention respectively, against them.
Police sources claimed the victim, Himanshu, was in a relationship with a girl who lived in the same locality, and he would meet and talk to her regularly. “The girl’s brother, Shahrukh, found out about their frequent interactions and decided to kill him,” claimed a police source.
“On Monday at 9.14 pm, we received information of a stabbing incident at Gokulpuri police station. Immediately, the SHO and other staff reached the spot and found that the victim had been taken to GTB Hospital… where he was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors,” said police.
Himanshu’s family, however, alleged he was never in a relationship with the girl.
Sitting at her home, Himanshu’s mother, dressed in a bright turquoise salwar-kameez stained by her son’s blood, said he got a call last night from the girl’s brother.
“He told Himanshu his sister wanted to meet him. My son went to the lane next to our house and those boys pulled him inside a narrow alley and stabbed him… he ran out towards our home but collapsed mid-way,” she said.

Emotions ran high in the colony, with the victim’s neighbours hurling profanities as they led media persons to the accused’s house. At the crime scene, the group shouted at residents who live in the lane and accused them of sitting mum while the stabbing occurred.
“I don’t know what our fault is,” said one neighbour, requesting to not be named. “We’ve told the police that we couldn’t see the culprits’ faces… We were all watching the (IPL) match and eating dinner… we heard a fight and someone shouting in pain. When people came out, we saw some boys running in opposite directions. We saw nothing else,” she said.
The mob, meanwhile, attempted to break the lock hanging from the doors of the accused’s house before a neighbour managed to calm them down. “Let the police do their work, let them decide what should happen to them,” the man said with folded hands.
