At its annual developer conference, Apple unveiled iOS 15 — the next big software update for iPhones — with a slew of new features. iOS 15 all be all about staying connected, finding focus, using intelligence and exploring the world, Apple said at the event. Here are some of the key features to coming to iPhone with iOS 15:
New features for FaceTime
FaceTime on iPhone will get Spatial Audio support for a better audio experience. There will be a new Grid view for videos and Apple for the first time will allow Android and Windows users to join FaceTime calls from Web. A new feature called SharePlay has been added and can be used for sharing content during FaceTime calls.
Apple is customising how notifications are delivered on iPhone. When users enable Do Not Disturb, their status will be visible to others through the Messages app. Apple has revamped the design of Notifications and the icons have been made bigger
Photos app gets new features
A new interactive memories features will be available in Photos app. A new OCR features will be added for easier text recognition. Apple said that it relies on AI to detect text images automatically.
Added privacy features
iOS 15 introduces even more privacy controls to help protect user information. With on-device speech recognition, audio of Siri requests is now processed entirely on iPhone by default, and performance improves significantly. Mail Privacy Protection stops senders from learning whether an email has been opened, and hides IP addresses so senders can’t learn a user’s location or use it to build a profile on them.
Safari gets new features
Safari gets a new design that makes controls easier to reach with one hand and puts content front and centre. The new tab bar is compact, and floats at the bottom of the screen, so users can easily swipe between tabs. Tab Groups allow users to save tabs and easily access them at any time across iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
New Weather and Notes app
Weather app will have more graphical displays of weather data, full-screen maps, and dynamic layouts that change based on conditions. Notes app adds user-created tags that make it easy to quickly categorise notes, and mentions allow members of shared notes to notify one another of important updates.
