IN A bid to provide relief to the common man, the West Bengal government on Sunday announced a reduction of tax by Re 1 per litre on petrol and diesel effective from midnight. State Finance Minister Amit Mitra, during a virtual news conference, said the move would provide some respite to people who are affected by the rising prices of fuel. “The Centre earns Rs 32.90 per litre in taxes from petrol, while the state gets Rs 18.46 only. In case of diesel, the central government’s earning is Rs 31.80 per litre as against Rs 12.77 for the state. Municipal corporation elections in Gujarat: Jamnagar registers highest turnout, Ahmedabad lowest

Voting for general elections to six municipal corporations in the state – Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar – saw a tardy pace and low turnout on Sunday. As per the official website of the Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC), the six municipal corporations reported an average 43% voting. KENNETT: One person died and four others were wounded in an overnight shooting at an American Legion club in southeast Missouri, police said Sunday. KAIT-TV reported that officers found the five victims inside the American Legion Building in Kennett following the report of the shooting before 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Two people were flown to a hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in critical condition. Two other victims were being treated at local hospitals.
