Deportation plea of 8 Pakistani nationals rejected

A special court on Monday rejected a plea by eight Pakistani nationals, arrested from a boat in 2015 allegedly with 232kg of heroin, seeking to be deported to Karachi. The arrested, facing trial in the case under charges of the Narcotic Drugs and Pyschotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, filed the plea, stating that the court in Mumbai has no territorial jurisdiction to conduct the trial as the boat in which they were apprehended by the Indian Coast Guard was on international waters. The prosecution countered saying that the waters in which the arrest took place was within the exclusive economic zone and hence the plea made was “without merit”. “I am of the opinion, that considering the seriousness of the alleged offences, the quantity of the narcotic drugs allegedly seize...

Congress will be reduced to 4 seats in next LS poll: Chandrakant Patil

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has invited criticism from the Maharashtra BJP for “raising questions on India’s defence matters”. State BJP president Chandrakant Patil said, “The Congress has already been reduced to 40 seats from 400. In the next Lok Sabha elections, the party will have just four seats.” Patil attacked Rahul for “questioning the armed forces’ capability” and “distorting facts” related to the ministry of defence. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Patil said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday handed over the Arjun Main Battle Tank, an army hunter killer, to armed forces. The Prime Minister’s efforts to make the defence sector Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) are succeeding. Despite that, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is repeatedly questioning the ...

ISL: Ruthless Hyderabad send Kerala Blasters packing | Football News – Times of India

VASCO: Watched by their closest playoff rivals, a ruthless Hyderabad FC made a statement with a 4-0 demolition of former champions Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League here on Tuesday. A brace from Fran Sandaza (58, 63') and goals from Aridane Santana (86') and Joao Victor (90') helped Hyderabad climb to third on the league table. The result meant Kerala Blasters are now mathematically out of the playoff race. Kerala were on top for the majority of the opening half, registering four shots on target compared to Hyderabad's zero. Hyderabad looked livelier towards the end of the first half but it only showed when Joel Chianese shifted from the flanks towards the middle. However, inefficiency in the final third from both sides meant that the scoreline remained goalless at the break. A...

Bhagalpur is latest on testing radar: 1,400 entries with gaping holes, string of zeroes

LAST WEEK, Bihar set up 10 teams to conduct a state-wide probe based on the findings of an investigation by The Indian Express on how Covid testing data was allegedly fudged and inflated to meet targets in three districts. But the state government insisted that there were “irregularities” mainly in just one — Jamui. New records accessed and tracked by The Indian Express show otherwise. Data compiled by four Primary Health Centres and two government hospitals in Bhagalpur show 1,438 entries for RT-PCR tests with 10 zeroes listed as their numbers and incomplete addresses, making it virtually impossible to trace them. The data, from December 13, 2020 to January 5, 2021, do not show results of the tests conducted. There is more. One of those hospitals, a referral facility at P...
