With the lowest budget in ISL, we were in top four. Don’t know why NorthEast sacked me: Gerard Nus | Football News – Times of India

The sacking of Gerard Nus, youngest coach in the ISL at 35, took many by surprise. The former NorthEast United FC coach was the toast of the league at the start when his side punched above its weight to remain unbeaten in six matches. He was leading David's fight against the Goliaths, until his sacking. Now back home in Barcelona, Nus has continued to watch ISL but still cannot figure out why he was sacked. He spoke exclusively to TOI… What were your first impressions about the Indian Super League?I really like the league. To be honest, I was familiar even when I didn't work here. I was familiar because I had a lot of friends who worked here, either as coach or player. When I decided to come to India, the feeling was positive. Have you been watching the ISL at home?Yes, I've watched pre...

Decision by Tikait to not have ‘chakka jam’ in UP, U’khand taken in ‘hasty manner’, says SKM leader | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Senior farmer leader Darshan Pal on Saturday said the decision by BKU leader Rakesh Tikait to not hold 'chakka jam' in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand was taken in "a hasty manner". He said that it would have been better had he first discussed his plan with the Samkyukta Kisan Morcha. Earlier this week, the Morcha, an umbrella body of farmer unions leading the protests at three Delhi border points - Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur - against a trio of farm laws for over 70 days, had announced a nationwide 'chakka jam' on February 6. On Friday, Tikait told reporters that there would be no road blockade in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Saturday. A senior farmer leader, who didn't wish to be named, said that the BKU leader's "sudden decision" surprised some leaders of the SKM. "It wo...

The Rath Yatra by the BJP may strengthen this process. Here people are unhappy and fed up with the rise in corruption, appeasement as well as nephew-brotherhood in the state,” Vardhan told medipersons. The BJP has been targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee with “nephew” jibe, alleging that he is involved in several scams. “Now, there ...

‘Farmers left out of PM-Kisan net due to CM’s ego’: J P Nadda

On a day when road blockades against the three farm laws were reported across the country, BJP national president JP Nadda on Saturday blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “ego” for depriving state farmers of Central scheme benefits. He reaffirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to farmers’ welfare. “What Mamata di did with farmers of Bengal by depriving them of PM-Kisan benefits was injustice. She did not allow the implementation of the welfare programme in the state to satisfy her ego,” Nadda said while attending the final round of the month-long ‘Krishak Suraksha Abhiyan’ and ‘Ek Mutthi Chawal’ campaigns of the party in Malda. The two campaigns are aimed at mobilising Bengal farmers in favour of the party, which has been battling agrarian protests again...

Congress promises law, penalty to overrule Sabarimala women entry

Saying that the entry of women of menstruating age in the Sabarimala temple still remains an issue, the Congress promised here Saturday that if voted to power, it would bring a law to make any violation of traditions at the shrine “a cognisable offence”. The party released a draft of the proposed legislation even as the LDF government finds itself again in a bind over the issue. Asked on Friday about his government’s next course of action, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was noncommittal, repeating that they were waiting for the decision of a nine-judge Bench of the Supreme Court in the matter. The Supreme Court had facilitated the entry of women of all ages to the temple in 2018. However, after a bunch of review petitions challenging the order were filed in the Court, it h...

‘Chakka Jam’: 3-hr road blockade mainly in 2 states, farm leaders fan out to keep peace

For three hours, from 12 noon to 3 pm Saturday, farmers protesting against the Centre’s new farm laws blocked several roads mainly across Punjab and Haryana Saturday. Elsewhere, the call for a nationwide “chakka jam,” evoked scattered response. In the two states, though, the blockade disrupted traffic on many highways even as farmer unions took steps to ensure there was no repeat of the Republic Day violence when a section of the protests spiralled out of control. On most stretches, traffic resumed after 3.30 pm; ambulances and essential service vehicles were allowed to pass through; several leaders criss-crossed the state and underlined to protesters the need to keep the peace; the blockade wasn’t allowed to extend beyond the stipulated 3 pm. ‘Chakka jam’ of Kisan unions...

Nine months after the start of the military standoff between India and China along the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Saturday it had been agreed at minister-level meetings last September that troops should disengage in some areas, but so far there had been “no visible expression” of that on the ground. Responding to questions from reporters in Vijayawada, Jaishankar said: “You know the events of what happened last year. After that, we have deployed troops in very large numbers to meet the challenge which has come from the massing of Chinese troops out there.” “Last year, Raksha Mantri Rajnathji had met his counterpart in Moscow. Shami resumes training, may be available for 3rd Test against England | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India's senior speedster Mohammed Shami has resumed "low-intensity" bowling at the National Cricket Academy as his fractured wrist has healed significantly, raising hopes that he could be available for selection for the final two Test matches of the series against England. Shami was hit by a short ball from Pat Cummins during India's second innings debacle at Adelaide on December 19. He had to retire after sustaining a hairline fracture on his right forearm failing to defend a short ball from Cummins. He was subsequently ruled out of the Test series against Australia and had to return home for an extensive rehabilitation programme. On Friday, Shami had tweeted a video of him bowling at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru alongside Navdeep Saini, who had a groin muscle i...

India vs England: Indians may have carried the habit of bowling no balls from nets | Cricket News – Times of India

CHENNAI: The 19 no-balls that Indians have bowled so far in England's first innings of the first Test here were the most by the team in 10 years. In 2010, the Indians had bowled 16 no balls in Sri Lanka's first innings in the third Test in Colombo. This is also the most no balls bowled by any team in Test cricket since Sri Lankans bowled 21 against hosts Bangladesh in the second Test in Chattogram in 2014. While India won the Colombo Test in 2010 despite the 16 no balls, the result of the ongoing first Test against England is awaited. At close of play on the second day at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here, England scored 555 for eight wickets, and are expected to bat as many overs as possible on Sunday. India have pressed into service six bowlers so far, and they have bowled 180 overs. Sp...

KOLKATA: Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said that the country is developing seven more Covid-19 vaccines and also working on further vaccine development to inoculate every citizen of India. He said the Centre does not have any immediate plan to make the vaccines available in the open market and a decision will be taken as the situation demands. The Covid-9 inoculation process for people aged above 50 will start in March, he told reporters. "We are not dependent only on the two vaccines as the country is working on seven more indigenous vaccines. "Simultaneously, we are also working on the development of more vaccines because India is a huge country and we need more players and research to reach out to everyone," he said.
